The Complete Forsyte Saga dvd??

Well!! It turns out that over in Europe, they have released a DVD that contains the entire 1st and 2nd series of the BBC's "Forsyte Saga" miniseries from early 2000 titled "The Complete Forsyte Saga"!! Inexpensive, too. This is NOT to be confused with "The Forsyte Saga, the Complete Series" from 1969, which I don't want.

See??

But it's not available as a complete series yet (or ever?) in the US. No, we have to pay a lot more and buy them separately. Pooh!!

Gack. I just bought this--$60 for one and $40 for the other. Of course, I had a membership discount, $7 left on a gift card and a 15% off sale and a buy two get one free sale so I also got the new Sense and Sensibility which is paired with Miss Austen Regrets, but this is a much better deal!

I think all of that mess came to $70 or so, which isn't so bad for four series, but still :)

I know it’s so frustrating – I had the same problem with Daniel Deronda – I was dying to see it, but couldn’t find it anywhere in the UK, so had to order it from the US after all. The same story with A Doll’s House with Anthony Hopkins (I am studying the play as a part of my literature course and I have to consider performance possibilities for my assignment, so I desperately tried to find this version on dvd here, but in vain –again, ordered it from America)
If you wish I can buy The Forsyte Saga for you, but you will need region 2 dvd player to watch it.

Yepps, I have that box *smug* ;)
I heart Damian Lewis!
But can't you order it from amazon uk? I'm sure they'd ship to the states?

That's the problem! I'm sure I don't have a dvd player that plays anything but US dvd's, otherwise I would have jumped on the Amazon.com.uk deal. So weird that the US has different dvd players than Europe!! I wonder why?

You are sweet to offer to help me to get it!!

Hey, I just finally got a copy of Daniel Deronda on dvd, too! I'd rented it before, but never owned it. Good luck on your literature assignment. I read A Doll's House and loved it!

No, unfortunately, the US dvd players won't play European dvd's. We suck!!

I'll just have to save my pennies. I just love the book and I love the mini series. At the moment, I'm reading Galsworthy's A Modern Comedy, which is the sequel to The Forsyte Saga.

But I think there's a way of 'unlocking' them or something. I know my tech-savvy man had something done to our DVD player when we bought it so it can play both systems. I have no idea about costs, perhaps it's cheaper to buy the US dvd's, but it might be worth it in the long run, it certainly has been for us, I order as much from amazon.com as I do from co.uk.

I’ve got 3 dvd players, and paradoxically only the cheap and nasty one we got for 20 pounds in our local supermarket will play region 1 dvds… I personally don’t understand the reason behind it – even within Europe there are different regions, and sometimes dvds I brought to England from my home country Belarus (which is region 5 or something like this) won’t play in neither of our dvd players((

Oh,and I also wanted to say that your Chemise a la Reine turned out so beautiful))
