Corded petticoat is done!

Whew!! 20 rows of cording later, and we have an 1830's-40's corded petticoat!



Well, I mean, it isn't starched yet, so I guess it's almost done. Couldn't wait to share, though!

Sorry the lighting isn't better. We're in the middle of a thunderstorm! It was fun taking pictures on our deck in that, let me tell you.

I think it looks beautiful! But I do wonder, do those cords have a function? *Blush*

Yeah, that's why I was forced to make it. They didn't have hooped petti's in the 1830's. The petti's were stiffened by means of the cords (and starch) and helped hold out the gown. They wore several to get the right shape. I'll have 2. Here's a regular cotton petti and then the corded petti side by side so you can see. It's not a huge difference, but the gowns weren't huge then.
