I screwed up

I'm making a cute shrug to wear with corsets for clubbing, and looking at the pattern, I thought I could combine collar B with shrug body F. Looks like the neckline for shrug body B is much larger than shrug body F, because the collar is huge. Whoops.

Can anyone explain in simple terms how to make a collar to fit a particular neckline? I've never drafted a collar before, and this thing would be so cute with one.

For those interested, I'm using Butterick B4926 (Ghost of a rose, this is the pattern I told you about that you've been using so well for months :)

One way to do it would be measure the neckline of the shrug. Then take the collar and measure along that to get an idea of how much you need to adjust it.

Then trace the collar pattern onto some scrap paper so you can then slash it and take it in from the back and sides as needed. You might be able just to take the extra off the back, but I don't have that pattern, so I don't know what shape is exactly.

Thank you so much!!

I measured the neckline and used the original collar, but shrunk to the new dimensions, and I think it's going to fit!! Yay!

I just saw this post. I do use the collar B with the body F and yes, it is bigger.I've made it smaller at the part where you have to lay it on the fold. So I measured the neckline which is comfortable for me and then just took difference in amount of the collar in the middle (where you place in the fold), if you know what I mean.

I also just saw your finished shrug, so you did figure it out! I hope this is helpfull after all. Love it btw!!!! It's a gorgeous fabric and it will look spectacular with a black velvet corset!
