The Chemise a la Reine gown again - what do you think??

Still deciding on a pattern, but I've got a deadline now, so I swear I'll pick this time!!

I'm told that the Rocking Horse Farm pattern is crap, so that's out.

I'm told that the Reconstructing History pattern is probably good. But it is expensive.

I found a third option!!

What about the Wingeo version (click)?

The Great Pattern Review does NOT review this pattern, but I see their other patterns are favorably reviewed, so it gives me hope. If I can get a cheaper pattern that's good, I'd rather do this one. I wish I could just draft it myself, but I can't (or won't ;p).

Thoughts, my Chemise a la Reine fans??

I haven't made one but want to. I have the fabric just waiting for a pattern. I can't understand how to make one just making a tube, like Katherine suggests, so I will be dependent on a pattern. So I'll be interested in which one you do and how it comes out.

I'm the same way. I promise to post progress, etc when I begin. No reason to reinvent the wheel!!

I don't think you really need a pattern for a chemise à la reine: it's a big tube (3 meters of "periphery"), gathering on the top of the bodice by a ribbon (or something else), and tightened at the waist by a big ribbon...

Just my opinion...

Katherine told me the same thing! I just happen to be one of those that needs a pattern. I am lost - utterly lost - without one. But thank you for your confidence :)

I haven't seen this pattern in person but frankly I haven't been impressed with the historical accuracy of the Wingeo patterns I have seen. I suspect Wingeo will have the same issues that Rocking Horse has. If you must have a pattern I think I would go with Reconstructing History, expensive as it is. If you want to give it a try without a commercial pattern let me know and I’ll scan the scaled pattern from Waugh for you. :>

Thank you so much for your opinion on the Wingeo! OK, I'll bite the bullet and buy the Reconstructing History pattern. My husband now can't say I didn't research the less expensive patterns, so I feel I did my duty.

Thank you for the offer to scan the Waugh pattern. That's so nice of you! Since I'm in unchartered territory, I'm going to go with the commercial pattern.
