Photo of 1830's bodice

I thought I'd reward your patience with a shot of the completed bodice (minus back closure!). I really like it. I just hope the darn thing doesn't make me look like a big marshmallow!

You really suceeded in making a repro of the museum piece.
On pictures please ;)

[identity profile] madamemodiste.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much! I'm so glad I was able to do the bodice how I wanted!

[identity profile] kambriel.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the fabric I picked out for you!

I should have noticed sooner, but you know... crazy busy with the move and stuff lately.

It looks terrific ~ will I get to see you in this next week, or is it for another event?

[identity profile] madamemodiste.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, this is the precious fabric you chose!! Thank you so much!

This is for the Tea at SalonCon, so this will be debuted the week after FIT. For FIT, I made the black bengaline and velvet Victorian gown.

Thats beautiful - way to go on the front pieces.

[identity profile] madamemodiste.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm so glad I tried to do this!

[identity profile] rebecca817.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the deep rich color. and it looks like you managed the zigzag just fine. Quick question. What is FIT? Also, around the end of July is when I started seeing the SalonCon stuff. Is this an annual event?

I have a sewing workshop day in a few weeks and I want to start on my first hoops and a burnished brown silk to go over them. So, I'll post pictures as I get them done.

Nice! I love the colour!
Finally, the 1830's are not so ridiculous...

[identity profile] madamemodiste.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

[identity profile] valleyviolet.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Very yummy! :D

I love how the piping turned out. I hope it was worth all the work! :)

[identity profile] madamemodiste.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you very much! The piping was so much easier than I thought!

[identity profile] fetishfairy.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That looks amazing :D Somehow it reminds me of a dress in Sweeney todd. I love the fabric and color you have chosen!

[identity profile] madamemodiste.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

Yes, Colleen Atwood did the same treatment for the blue gown in ST. The zig zag bodice/gown has been popular for a long time according to fashion plates, and it's no wonder! I've seen it as early as Regency, but I'm sure it's been around longer.

Beautiful! You have such patience. Mind if I borrow some? hehe

[identity profile] madamemodiste.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!! Yes...*hands over some patience*...here you go!!

[identity profile] trystbat.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! That makes 1830s look GOOD!!!

"The Purple Marshmellow"
I hope mine turns out so good.

[identity profile] madamemodiste.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, stop! All your things are gorgeous!

[identity profile] laurenmonkey.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Beautiful!!

[identity profile] madamemodiste.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

[identity profile] oldhalloween.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
You are tall so its not likely to make you look like a marshmallow. Lovely color and execution.

[identity profile] madamemodiste.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I'm 5'5". I usually wear heels and platforms, so appear taller. I made this gown to fit me in flat shoes, so to me it looks so short!

[identity profile] koshka-the-cat.livejournal.com 2008-08-30 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Very pretty!

I don't think you'll look like a marshmallow, but if you do it would be period correct :)

[identity profile] jennylafleur.livejournal.com 2008-09-01 10:12 am (UTC)(link)
LOL!

Thank you so much!

[identity profile] aseret-black.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my! I'm following your progress on this from the Irish coast today and it was well worth the effort to stay up and look in after work today. The colour is wonderful. The '30's is not my favorite era but I might be persuaded to alter my opinion after seeing this gorgeous creation.

[identity profile] madamemodiste.livejournal.com 2008-09-01 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish I were on the Irish coast!! I can't wait for your photos!

Thank you for the compliments! I have a love of big sleeves and topiary hair, so the 1830's sucked me right in!

[identity profile] standgale.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
ooh ooh pretty!
I don't think you'll look like a marshmallow, because marshmallows aren't that colour. Maybe you'll look like a giant plum. ;)
The binding/piping/edges look good, and I notice you have matching buttons I presume you had to make too.

[identity profile] madamemodiste.livejournal.com 2008-09-01 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
A giant plum!? Oh noes!! LOL!

Yes, I made matching covered buttons. I swear that was the easiest part!

LOVE IT. SO MUCH.

[identity profile] marcine.livejournal.com 2008-09-03 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
How nice! The diamonds and piping worked out perfectly. (I've been without internet for the last several days, so only now saw your pretty gown.) And you didn't look the least like a marshmallow in a chemise, so there's no way you will look like one in this, even with the oh-so-poofy 1830s sleeves. :) Very pretty!
