The Flying Dress from Titanic

Those Titanic-like shoes got me thinking...I will be vacationing on the Queen Mary for 3 days in July, and have a semi-Titanic inspired wardrobe planned. As it will be hot, I fear that doing the Flying Dress in velvet and satin will kill me. What do you guys think of doing it in linen? And what color combination? This is a goth event, but if I do the whole thing in black, the details will get lost and I'll still be hot.

Renaissance Fabrics has some lovely linen colors. I'm thinking perhaps lilac linen jacket with black linen sash, jacket panels, sleeve detail, and skirt(s).

Any other ideas?

I just picked up some linen (well I bought the rest of the bolt) at Joann in their sale section. It was half off of 4$ a yard, so 2$ a yard, if you ever have a chance to go look. It's this great natural with a plum stripes. Not necessarily for this particular outfit, but a very nice fabric for the price!

I love the lilac, I also think a light offwhite or cream would look stunning.

Yeah, I was thinking cream and black, too. The only thing stopping me is I am also making Rose's Boarding Suit with a cream linen with a black pinstripe, and my Edwardian evening gown is cream and black. I'm trying so hard to break out of my pattern LOL!

I think linen would look really nice (or "well nice" if I want to sound like a Londoner). I buy all of my linen from fabric-store.com and have never been disappointed in quality or speed of shipment. They have a lot of colors to choose from so they might have a combo you hadn't considered.

Queen Mary? Goth event? This sounds utterly sick...yowee!!!

Linen should be awesome, but I'm sure it will look like a very different kind of dress. If getting it to look the same, you could also considering laying fairly sheer silk (and maybe opting for silver instead of heat-hogging black). Otherwise, go with what you want.

Happy dance for the linen. The fine delicate weight.

The Boy is very enthusiastic about the Queen Mary but I'm worried that I will be on the road (I'm in the second week of being in Cincinnati with still 10 days to go).

I WANT AN EDWARDIAN TRAVELLING SUIT!!! And a lovely hat, even if I'm too short to carry it off.

Sounds all lovely!
I like the idea a lot!
