Regency House Party and sewing update

So last night, quite by accident, I discovered that a local PBS channel has been running Regency House Party on Thursday nights! I missed last week, but I saw most of last night's. I haven't seen it in quite a while as I have no idea where my VHS copy is that I recorded when it originally aired several years ago. Now I'm on a Regency kick and want to make a new gown, but I can't!

In other news, the pocket I attempted to make last week was a failure, so I had to re-cut a new jacket peplum. Yesterday I made the pocket flaps with contrasting piping. If I can't have a pocket, I can still have pocket flaps!

Regency House Party was pretty fun, I may have to set tivo to chatch it.

If it's any consolation the pockets on that jacket are pretty small anyway, and it ruins the look to have anything more bulky than a credit card in them. I don't think I've ever used mine. Far better to just have pockets in the petticoat.

p.s. I think I put invisible snaps to keep the pocket flaps "closed" if you're not going to make the pocket you may want to just sew them "closed."

Good idea! Thanks for the tip!

Hey, did you have any problems with the neck area? Even in the medium, the immediate neck circumference seems small and I don't think I can button the first two buttons. If I cut the neck bigger, I'd have to re-cut a new collar, and [insert whiney voice] I don't wanna. I know I have to make the armscye bigger, so I'm hoping that will ease up the neck, too.

I didn't but I'm a bit of a freak in that while I have normal sized hands and head my wrists and neck run a bit small.

You can also not button the top two though. With the yellow outfit I usually have but I kind of liked the looks of having it unbuttoned a bit for my pink pirate (who's a bit more of a flirt) If you've got the neckline filled in with a frilly jabot it looks fine.

Also, as you can see from the icon, the collar doesn't meet exactly at cf. So if you're basing it on the collar, it will run a bit small, as long as the neck opening on the pattern is wide enough you should be fine.

Are pipings period? I loved your pocket flaps, just so you know I'm not dissing you, I'm just wondering =)

I have no idea! I'm copying the yellow travel gown from Dangerous Liaisons, and it appears the gown is piped. It accentuates the details that would otherwise get lost, like the pocket flap. Sorry I can't help regarding the accuracy. I'm still green with the 18th century. Glad you like it!

Yah, I loved how your pocket flaps really popped out! I think I might steal that idea for my riding jacket. (which I really should start as my living in denial and still wearing a summerjacket is getting very cold...)
