I wear a shift (chemise), 2 lightweight petticoats and a bum roll or false rump. I used the Wingeo pattern (the only one in the line I like! :>) for that. http://www.jennylafleur.com/precis/2004_01.htm

The petticoats are just 2-3 panels of fabric pleated onto a waistband. Linen is probably more accurate but cotton is easier on the budget so that is what I have right now. Both Katherine and I have short tutorials on 18th century petticoats you might find helpful.
