I've decided to ask for a serger for Christmas, but I don't want to break the bank. Heather over at Truly Victorian recommended the White "Speedylock" for ease of use, reliability, and price. It doesn't have a thousand bells and whistles, but it does what I need, including rolled hems and blind hems.

I like to buy from my local sewing machine shop up the street. They offer lots of classes and are really good to me when my Bernina has a hissy fit (I bought it there). Free how-to classes with every machine you buy. But they don't sell White brand. They sell Baby Lock. So he recommended the Baby Lock BL450. Seems to me to be the same as the White machine, but $100.00 more. Will this machine be 'tougher'? Will the extra $100.00 be worth it in classes and repair discounts?

What to do?
