I need an icon for huge sleeves!

Here is the sleeve before it was gathered and sewn to the sleeve stay. It covered an entire 2-seater bench!!

Then here is Lamb Chop just pinned to the dressform. I wanted to see how it looked. I LOVE it!!

Whoa! When you said big, you really meant BIG! Very dramatic!

Even I didn't know how big they would be until that one was done. I wonder what it will be like to wear this thing? And will it fit in my closet?? LOL!

Dude, I know!! I wonder if the cats will think I've "puffed up" due to some defensive mode and get nervous? Naaah...they've seen the big hair and various panniers and bustles. This probably won't phase them!!

Thank you!! I can't wait to wear both at the same time! I'll be a force to be reckoned with. And how many people will poke the sleeves out of pure fascination?

Haha, I bet people will be poking at your sleeves all the time!

I'd be tempted to hide a teddybear squeaker inside, to give the pokers a surprise! ;)

What's good for hair is good for sleeves! In my case, I'm making up for a lack of poufiness in another charming and delicate area. For once people will stare below my neck and exclaim, "Wow, those are HUGE!". I can dream, can't I???

Looks great so far!

Seriously, can I borrow your sewing mojo? Mine seems to have disappeared! :-)

I think my sewing mojo came to me upon the force of these sleeves. The mojo didn't stand a chance against the gravitational pull of the gigantic sleeves!

Any interest in attending the annual Victorian picnic in June in the Philadelphia area?

Oh, I might! Philly isn't so far away! Ooh, actually it depends when it is - I have to go to a conference in early June, then NYC the weekend of the 6th, and our family vacation is later in the month.

It sounds fun though - it would be great if it were a weekend I could go! :-)

How's June 14th?

See HERE for pics from last year's party, and HERE for last few years. I'd love to have you!

I might be able to do the 14th - I need to see how my other trips turn out - I may need a weekend off between them! But I think I will be in town at lest!! :-)

It looks wonderful, monster sleeves and all!

I was watching the "Madness of King George" the other day and thought of you. The character Amanda Donohoe plays, Lady Pembroke, looked a bit like you and a wardrobe you could seriously go for. Check it out when you get a chance...

Oh, I love "The Madness of King George"! I think Lady Pembroke was the unfortunate object of the King's desires during his illness?? I can't remember exactly. I'll have to catch it again, and I think I saw it on the TV schedule. Hope I didn't miss it!

Yes, she's the one! Unfortunately I couldn't find any pictures of her online. She's got the most fabulous clothes of any of the women in that movie, including an especially lovely riding habit.

The sleeve is perfect! Just like the picture. :)
The problem with historically puffy sleeves is how much material they take up - one generally doesn't budget metres of material just for sleeves.
Does it have something under it to make it puffy, or is it just the material?

Yes, it has quite a bit of help to stay poufy! First of all, I chose a fabric with a crisp hand. It is flatlined with a stiff net. Then, the sleeve stay underneath has a deep ruffled flounce of stiff net sandwiched between the stay and the sleeve pouf. Crazy stuff! It was a complicated sleeve to make, and I almost needed a drink to make the second one (which I just finished instead of doing homework).

And I'm so glad that you think it looks like the picture, too. I was so surprised when it actually turned out to look right!

Hmmm.... I wonder if my sleeve - made of velvet and nowhere near as big as yours - will need some of that. I wasn't able to find instructions. I need to pin it together and just see how it looks.

Isn't it amazing when things actually work out though? :D It looks great!
