madamemodiste: (18th century gown)

Today I constructed the over skirt. When I say constructed, ...yeah...it's more like an architectural moment than sewing!! Anyway, It went pretty well. I put my panniers on my mannequin and took piccies of the gown so far.

So tomorrow I'll construct and apply the sleeves and hopefully make the underskirt. It looks pretty lifeless with out a petticoat underneath. I also usually use a small bustle pillow in back to fill in the area between the hip buckets in the back. Oh yeah, I also have to put on the hooks and eyes and hem the overgown.

Thank you!

I keep thinking about your other comment regarding the fitted back. I can't imagine a MORE complicated way to make this, and it blows my mind! I bow down to you that you've made so many of these.

I learned by force (working in a costume shop...) although you should be proud of yourself because most people run and hide from these gowns.
