Sort of like Oz: Do not look behind the curtain...I mean, too closely at the binding along the bottom edge. But I think I did OK for a very first corset!!

[EDIT] Ah ha! I've been given a tip over at an 18th C LJ site and was told my lacing is wrong. I vaguely knew that, but don't have a clue as to how to do the other kind no matter how I stare at it. Then the other question: I have to unlace this thing by myself at 2am...can I do that with the proper 18th C. lacing style?

Very prety! I like the bows at the shoulders. And you can get out of stays like these by yourself. You can even lace yourself in if you use a long enough lace. I lace the top part of my stays, slip 'em over my head, tighten the laced part, and thread the lace through the rest of the eyelets and tighten. When I take my stays off, I unlace about 2/3 of the way up then just loosen the top lacing so I can slip the stays off over my head. (If your girls are particularly healthy, this doesn't work as well -- the girls behave better and the stays end up more comfortable if you lace from the bottom up if you need to reign a lot in. :))
