question about chemise gown

Can anyone tell me about how many yards the chemise gown (chemise a la reine) requires? Would 4 yards of 60" be right? 5 yards? I'm 5'5" with a 27" waist and small bust.
Also, I found a ton more of that pretty cotton voile at the Joann's here in Vermont. Would that be ok to use to make this garment? (see the fabric HERE)?
Thanks, guys!!

Date: 2008-05-31 04:18 pm (UTC)I just wanted to comment that I'm amazed you're 5'5"...you always look so much taller in your pictures!
(Though people are always amazed when they meet me for the first time as I'm only 5'2" and the general reaction is "I thought you were taller")

I used four panels of 36" wide fabric for mine. I think I made the narrowest dress out of those of us who made them at Costume College, but I'm also a shrimp :)

*hrm...quite a Freudian slip, eh? I didn't realize I'd made that typo until after I posted the response!
