madamemodiste: (fabric shopping)

Hrm. I just went through my fabric stash. I have a ton of fabric in there with no plans for most of it. Some of it I know I won't use because I bought too much for a past project and don't want to make a second garment out of it. I'm too lazy to measure it out, photograph it, and get it weighed (involves taking it all to post office and having each individually weighed) to sell it. So there it will sit taking up room, taunting me with it's fabricness.

Can someone come over and help me get inspired and pick gown designs for my fabric?

And I'm missing one of my new TV patterns. I fear it fell out of a broken zipper of my suitcase when I came back from NC. Hopefully not, and that it will turn up somewhere in the apartment.

*snork*
I could have worse problems!

I need to organize my fabric stash as well. It's completely out of control.

A couple of ideas as to how to control it...
1. Give away fabrics you absolutely don't need or are no longer your style to friends.
2. You seem to have several friends that sew, how about a "fabric swap"? You can have tea and everyone can bring unwanted fabric, notions and trim to trade.

I'll second fabric swapping. It's loads of fun and it can get you interested in sewing again when you're sick of the fabrics you've got. ;)

Also, you might want to just box up some of the ones you like but don't want to use right at the moment and set them aside for a few months or a year. Don't look at them. When you get back to them it'll be like Christmas, except for free! :P

If I had more friends that sewed, I would be doing a fabric swap. Sadly almost all the sewing enthusiasts I know are considerable distances away. :( The people I know who do sew and are close by are mostly novices with two notable exceptions, and consequently haven't acquired stacks of fabric to trade. So it would be mostly donations on this end.

And that is my exact situation, too. I'm afraid I'm stuck with the stuff until I'm inspired!
