Looks like Reconstructing History is putting out some new patterns that look really great!

I wonder if the reason for the new chemise dress is due to the large number of ladies of my acquaintance who made them this past Spring/Summer!!

I also like the Regency men's greatcoat and the ladies' Regency morning dress

Thanks for pointing out that RH was putting out more patterns! I saw some of the new regency ones last month, but now they've added more. Based on the pictures, it appears they're sticking close to Janet Arnold and Waugh for their sources. The regency morning dress looks a lot like the bib-front dress in JA.

Interesting :)

Personally, I think some things are made easier with measurements than with patterns, and a chemise dress is definitely one of them! As are 1840s-1860s skirts. I can't imagine the size of the pattern pieces you'd have to lay out!

However, not everyone can work instructionless, and in that case, a pattern is good. I'd still be more likely to say cut out this big rectangle than provide a pattern piece if I were making the pattern, and just provide a shape to cut out the neckline and underarm.

Do you know anything about the Rocking Horse Farm chemise gown pattern? It's certainly cheaper!

I don't. I've used two Rocking Horse Farm patterns though, and both were extremely oversized. However, since this is just a giant tube fit with drawstrings it probably wouldn't be an issue!

It's crap. My mom made it up, the directions are bad, the construction not at all period correct and result quite ugly. I'm curious now to see if the Reconstructing History one is any better...

Thanks for the tips!! I'll stay away from the Rocking Horse patterns.

Oh my gosh, a chemise dress pattern? How funny! Yeah - there were a huge glut of us that made them last summer! I still nee somewhere to wear mine! I'm half curious to get the pattern, but really, it's just straight panels of fabric and drawstrings. :-)

Yeah, I'm half curious too. Mainly because I know the patternmaker is really into doing things authentically and I'd like to see her take on it. But since I have a dress and no need for the pattern, I doubt I will :)

Thirty bucks? Gasp. It's nice that she makes these patterns though. And it is a popular dress.

I agree that the prices are high. Rocking Horse Farm sells a chemise dress pattern for $13.00. I'd try that first ;)

I think you will enjoy this very short youtube clip (http://youtube.com/watch?v=r6nybg-TwAQ); apparently it was made by another maker of beautiful yesteryear clothes.

She is lovely, isn't she? A great seamstress, too! I spent a little time with her that weekend in Portland!

I should've guessed that you'd know her!
