Here is the moodboard I created for this project. Remember I decided to scrap the satin taffeta for velvet lapels instead. And here is the finished gown:

I hear there is an mourning art exhibit near my house, and an open house on Saturday. I want to wear this to the event, though I suspect no one would have worn moire bengaline as a half mourning fabric, that's what I had in the stash! Yes, I took creative liberty again.

Looks great...very stark.

Yeah...half mourning black and white is stark. It does have more detail in person with the moire pattern in the jacket and skirt, the velvet ribbon detail on the jacket, and the alencon lace of the front inset.

Those sleeves....! :D

Fabulous! It must have taken forever to get the puffs correct... I hate that sort of thing. ;) But yours look great!

Yes, those sleeves were a total pain! But their dramatic effect is so worth it!

This really looks great!!
What kind of fabric is the frontpart, it look very intresting but I can't see on the picture.
The sleeves look more modest and prettier, did you sized them down a little?
I still need to make this outfit and I will definatly size them down a bit, otherwise I would feel a bit clownesque.

Thank you!

The front inset is alencon lace gathered over white taffeta.

Oh, and you asked about the sleeves! No, I didn't size them down. I imagine I either didn't put as much stuffing inside as they did, or my fabric is drapier so doesn't stand out so much. Or both :D

That looks great!!
Really beautiful lace.
I do think yours looks way better then on the pattern, maybe because you kept things in the same colours (altough B&W aren't officially colours).

I've actually never been a fan of big poofy sleeves, but I like the way your's look on this dress. You did a great job on this!

Yeah, a lot of people are scared away from the 1830's and mid 1890's because of the big sleeves. I understand.

Thank you!

Interestingly enough, I like the poofy 1830's sleeves, but not the 1890's sleeves. I think it's because the 1830's sleeves are a little lower and more graceful looking or something. The 1890's sleeves often just look too bulky for me. Hahaha, I'm really weird about sleeves and my arms. I can't wear bulky sleeves without going crazy.

But yeah, I love the fabric you made this out of. Is it silk, or something else?
